The Holy Quran 16:123 — Surah An-Nahl

Arabic text

ثُمَّ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Translation

Then We sent revelation to you (O Muhammad ﷺ, instructing you to): "Follow the religion of Ibraheem that is Haneef (inclined towards the truth and averse to all false creeds). He (Ibraheem عليه الصلاة والسلام) was (definitely) not from the Mushrikeen." (These words are repeated to emphasise the fact that Ibraheem عليه الصلاة والسلام was neither a Jew nor a Christian as the Jews and Christians claimed.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ثم أوحينا إليك -أيها الرسول- أن اتبع دين الإسلام كما اتبعه إبراهيم، وأن استقم عليه، ولا تَحِدْ عنه، فإن إبراهيم لم يكن من المشركين مع الله غيره.
