The Holy Quran 16:115 — Surah An-Nahl
Translation
Allaah has forbidden for you (to eat) Maytah (an animal which dies a natural death or which is not slaughtered or hunted in accordance with the Shari'ah), blood (that flows from the animal's body), the meat of pigs (and all other parts of its body), and (the meat of) those animals that were sacrificed with (the slaughterer taking) the name of another besides Allaah (such as the name of an idol, Jinn, saint, prophet, etc). As for him who is driven by(dire) necessity (to eat these forbidden foods for fear of losing his life), then (he may eat them provided that he eats) neither rebelliously (without taking enjoyment), nor transgressing the limits (without eating more than is necessary to keep him alive). (Allaah allows this concession because) Verily Allaah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful (and has therefore made the Deen very practical.).
Tafsir (excerpt) —
