The Holy Quran 14:17 — Surah Ibrahim

Arabic text

يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُسِيغُهُۥ وَيَأْتِيهِ ٱلْمَوْتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَيِّتٍ ۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِيظٌ

Translation

He will drink it (because of his extreme thirst) in sips (not all at once because of its terrible taste and odour) and it will not go down his throat. (The causes of) Death will come to him from all sides, but he will not die (because there is no death in the Aakhirah). (This will not be the end because) Before him (still to come to) will be (even more) severe punishment (from head to toe).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يحاول المتكبر ابتلاع القيح والدم وغير ذلك مما يسيل من أهل النار مرة بعد مرة، فلا يستطيع أن يبتلعه; لقذارته وحرارته، ومرارته، ويأتيه العذاب الشديد من كل نوع ومن كل عضو من جسده، وما هو بميت فيستريح، وله من بعد هذا العذاب عذاب آخر مؤلم.
