The Holy Quran 12:88 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ قَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْعَزِيزُ مَسَّنَا وَأَهْلَنَا ٱلضُّرُّ وَجِئْنَا بِبِضَـٰعَةٍ مُّزْجَىٰةٍ فَأَوْفِ لَنَا ٱلْكَيْلَ وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيْنَآ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَجْزِى ٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ

Translation

When they (the brothers) entered into the presence of Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام they said, "O minister! (Aziz) Calamity (sever hunger) has befallen us and our family. We have come with a sum (of money) that is (so inferior that it is) worthy of being returned, so grant us the full measure (despite the inferior quality of the payment) and be charitable towards us. Indeed Allaah rewards the charitable ones."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فذهبوا إلى «مصر» ، فلما دخلوا على يوسف قالوا: يا أيها العزيز أصابنا وأهلنا القحط والجدب، وجئناك بثمن رديء قليل، فأعطنا به ما كنت تعطينا من قبل بالثمن الجيد، وتصدَّقْ علينا بقبض هذه الدراهم الرديئة القليلة وتسامح معنا فيها، إن الله تعالى يثيب المتفضِّلين على أهل الحاجة بأموالهم.
