The Holy Quran 12:58 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

وَجَآءَ إِخْوَةُ يُوسُفَ فَدَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَعَرَفَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ

Translation

(Eventually, when the drought began taking its toll, people from the outlying areas began coming to Egypt in search of food. Among those who came from Can'aan were the brothers of Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام (Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام's brothers came (to Egypt) and entered into his presence (to buy food). He recognised them, but they did not recognise him. (Pretending not to recognise them, Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام asked them about themselves and they told him that their father did not allow one of their brothers to accompany them because the father feared that he would also lose him like he had lost his other son previously.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقدِمَ إخوة يوسف إلى «مصر» -بعد أن حلَّ بهم الجدب في أرضهم-; ليجلبوا منها الطعام، فدخلوا عليه فعرفهم، ولم يعرفوه لطول المدة وتغيُّر هيئته.
