The Holy Quran 11:20 — Surah Hud

Arabic text

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۘ يُضَـٰعَفُ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۚ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يُبْصِرُونَ

Translation

Such people are not likely to escape (Allaah's punishment) on earth, and besides Allaah they shall not have any helpers (to save them from Allaah's punishment). Their punishment will be doubled (because in addition to their own rejection, they also convinced others to reject). They have neither the ability to hear (the truth), nor can they see (the truth because they do not want to hear or see it).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أولئك الكافرون لم يكونوا ليفوتوا الله في الدنيا هربًا، وما كان لهم مِن أنصار يمنعونهم من عقابه. يضاعَفُ لهم العذاب في جهنم; لأنهم كانوا لا يستطيعون أن يسمعوا القرآن سماع منتفع، أو يبصروا آيات الله في هذا الكون إبصار مهتد; لاشتغالهم بالكفر الذي كانوا عليه مقيمين.
