The Holy Quran 11:101 — Surah Hud

Arabic text

وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۖ فَمَآ أَغْنَتْ عَنْهُمْ ءَالِهَتُهُمُ ٱلَّتِى يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ لَّمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا زَادُوهُمْ غَيْرَ تَتْبِيبٍ

Translation

We did not oppress (wrong) them (the destroyed people) but they oppressed themselves (by inviting Allaah's punishment when they committed Shirk). Their gods which they called upon (worshipped) besides Allaah were of no benefit to them at all when the command (punishment) of your Rabb came. (On the contrary,) They only increased them in destruction (because they were punished according to the extent to which they worshipped these gods).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وما كان إهلاكهم بغير سبب وذنب يستحقونه، ولكن ظلموا أنفسهم بشركهم وإفسادهم في الأرض، فما نفعتهم آلهتهم التي كانوا يدعُونها ويطلبون منها أن تدفع عنهم الضر لمَّا جاء أمر ربك بعذابهم، وما زادتهم آلهتهم غير تدمير وإهلاك وخسران.
