The Holy Quran 10:83 — Surah Yunus

Arabic text

فَمَآ ءَامَنَ لِمُوسَىٰٓ إِلَّا ذُرِّيَّةٌ مِّن قَوْمِهِۦ عَلَىٰ خَوْفٍ مِّن فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِمْ أَن يَفْتِنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ لَعَالٍ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

Translation

Only a few people from his nation believed in Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام, fearing that Fir'oun and his ministers would put them to trial (would torture them to make them forsake the religion of Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام). Undoubtedly Fir'oun was in a position of superiority (high-handed) in the land (of Egypt), and he was certainly one of the transgressors (high handed by claiming that he was Allaah).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فما آمن لموسى عليه السلام مع ما أتاهم به من الحجج والأدلة إلا ذرية من قومه من بني إسرائيل، وهم خائفون من فرعون وملئه أن يفتنوهم بالعذاب، فيصدُّوهم عن دينهم، وإن فرعون لَجبار مستكبر في الأرض، وإنه لمن المتجاوزين الحد في الكفر والفساد.
