The Holy Quran 10:23 — Surah Yunus

Arabic text

فَلَمَّآ أَنجَىٰهُمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَبْغُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ ۗ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُم ۖ مَّتَـٰعَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

(However,) When He rescues them (and allows them to reach the shore safely), they suddenly (without stopping to think) start causing corruption on earth (once again) without just cause. O people! Your corruption (Shirk, sin and oppression) is to your own detriment (because you will suffer the consequences in this world and especially in the Aakhirah). You enjoy the pleasures of this world (for a short while), then (when you die) you shall return to Us and We will inform you of what you used to do (and punish you for your sins).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فلما أنجاهم الله من الشدائد والأهوال إذا هم يعملون في الأرض بالفساد وبالمعاصي. يا أيها الناس إنما وَبالُ بغيكم راجع على أنفسكم، لكم متاع في الحياة الدنيا الزائلة، ثم إلينا مصيركم ومرجعكم، فنخبركم بجميع أعمالكم، ونحاسبكم عليها.
