Zakat for a person from a poor community

Question

Zayd is engaged in trade and possesses nisab, but he belongs to a poor community. He still continues the same occupation. Is zakat and qurbani obligatory upon Zayd or not?

Answer

The obligation of zakat is not related to any specific community. Whoever possesses nisab, zakat becomes obligatory upon him according to the legal rule, regardless of which community he belongs to. Since Allah the Exalted has made Zayd wealthy, zakat is obligatory upon him, and it is not permissible for him to beg.
