Reciting Behind the Imam: “The Proof Lies upon the Claimant,” and What Remains Under “Lā Tafʿalū”

Answer

The respected Ḥaḍrat al-Aqdas Muftī ﵋ was giving the lesson of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī at Kanpur when a man came in and put a question. Question: What is your view on reciting behind the imam (qirāʾat khalf al-imām)? — The lesson was upon another ḥadīth, but he put this question the moment he sat down. Answer: First let me know my interlocutor's position; then I shall answer.
