The Tafsīrs Weighed, “Whoever Kills a Believer for His Faith,” and the Question of the Miḥrāb

Answer

Bayān al-Qurʾān. Asked by someone, he said: Ḥaḍrat Thānawī's ﵋ Bayān al-Qurʾān is a summary of all the tafsīrs of the earlier scholars. Rūḥ al-Bayān, al-Khāzin, Rūḥ al-Maʿānī, al-Maẓharī. He said: the author of Rūḥ al-Bayān is a ḥāṭib layl, a gatherer of firewood by night — that is, one who rakes together the moist and the dry, the sound and the weak alike.
