Answer

It is not correct to say that these venerable men [Abū Ḥanīfah and his companions] were not as devoted to the Prophetic ḥadīth as they were to fiqh; nor is it right to say that their whole attention was fixed on deriving rulings and injunctions from the verses and ḥadīths, while they had no interest at all in the compilation of ḥadīth.
