E939 Helium — is it halal?
Ruling: Halal
Description
Helium (E 939) is a noble gas; it is recovered from natural gas cryogenically, with membranes and by adsorption (c1), also from ammonia synthesis purge gas (c2), geothermal water (c3), off-gas of neon production (c4) and recovered after industrial use (c5). Purification: activated carbon (c6, bone-char variant — c7), amine acid-gas removal (c8), catalytic hydrogen removal (c9), zeolites and membranes (c10, c11)
Basis of the ruling
Helium is a noble gas. It is extracted from natural gas by cooling, membranes and adsorption, and also from ammonia and neon production gases, geothermal waters and by recovery after use; it is purified with carbon, zeolites and membranes. A gas from any raw material is not impure (najis)
