The Holy Quran 9:80 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِن تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ

Translation

(O Muhammad ﷺ!) Seek forgiveness for them (the Munaafiqeen) or do not seek forgiveness for them. (It makes no difference whether you seek forgiveness for them or not because) Even if you seek forgiveness for them seventy times, Allaah will never forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allaah and His Rasool ﷺ. Allaah does not guide the disobedient ones (because they have no desire to be guided).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

استغفر -أيها الرسول- للمنافقين أو لا تستغفر لهم، فلن يغفر الله لهم، مهما كثر استغفارك لهم وتكرر; لأنهم كفروا بالله ورسوله. والله سبحانه وتعالى لا يوفق للهدى الخارجين عن طاعته.
