The Holy Quran 9:49 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئْذَن لِّى وَلَا تَفْتِنِّىٓ ۚ أَلَا فِى ٱلْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا۟ ۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

Translation

Among them (the Munaafiqeen) is he who says, "Excuse me (from fighting) and do not expose me to temptation (because Judda bin Qais will be unable to control himself when he sees their women)." Behold! In temptation did he (already) fall (by being reluctant to fight)! Verily Jahannam shall surround the Kaafiroon (and they will be unable to escape).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ومِن هؤلاء المنافقين من يطلب الإذن للقعود عن الجهاد ويقول: لا توقعْني في الابتلاء بما يعرض لي في حالة الخروج من فتنة النساء. لقد سقط هؤلاء المنافقون في فتنة النفاق الكبرى. فإن جهنم لمحيطة بالكافرين بالله واليوم الآخر، فلا يُفْلِت منهم أحد.
