The Holy Quran 9:29 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

قَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلْحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا۟ ٱلْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَـٰغِرُونَ

Translation

Fight those from the ones who have been given the Book (the Jews and Christians) who do not believe in Allaah and the Last Day, who do not accept as unlawful those things that Allaah and His Rasool ﷺ have declared unlawful (such as liquor, pork, interest, etc), and who do not accept the true Deen (of Islaam). Fight them until they pay the Jizyah (protection and shelter tax) with their own hands in humiliation (bowing under Muslim rule).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أيها المسلمون قاتلوا الكفار الذين لا يؤمنون بالله، ولا يؤمنون بالبعث والجزاء، ولا يجتنبون ما نهى الله عنه ورسوله، ولا يلتزمون أحكام شريعة الإسلام من اليهود والنصارى، حتى يدفعوا الجزية التي تفرضونها عليهم بأيديهم خاضعين أذلاء.
