The Holy Quran 9:127 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ نَّظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَىٰكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ ثُمَّ ٱنصَرَفُوا۟ ۚ صَرَفَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ

Translation

Whenever a Surah is revealed, they (the Munaafiqeen) look at each other (asking by signs) "Can anyone see you?" Then (noticing that no one can see them leaving the gathering of Rasulullaah ﷺ) they turn away (and leave the Masjid). Allaah has turned their hearts away because they are people who have no understanding (because of ignorance and foolishness).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا ما أُنزلت سورة تغَامَزَ المنافقون بالعيون إنكارًا لنزولها وسخرية وغيظًا; لِمَا نزل فيها مِن ذِكْر عيوبهم وأفعالهم، ثم يقولون: هل يراكم من أحد إن قمتم من عند الرسول؟ فإن لم يرهم أحد قاموا وانصرفوا من عنده عليه الصلاة والسلام مخافة الفضيحة. صرف الله قلوبهم عن الإيمان; بسبب أنهم لا يفهمون ولا يتدبرون.
