The Holy Quran 9:101 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

وَمِمَّنْ حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مُنَـٰفِقُونَ ۖ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ ۖ مَرَدُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنِّفَاقِ لَا تَعْلَمُهُمْ ۖ نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٍ

Translation

Among the villagers around you (around Madinah) are hypocrites and from the people of Madinah (there are hypocrites) as well. They persist in hypocrisy (and do not want to refrain from it). You (O Rasulullaah) do not know them, but We know them (because only Allaah knows everything). We shall soon punish them twice (in this world and in the grave), after which they will be returned to a monstrous punishment (in Jahannam).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ومن القوم الذين حول (المدينة) أعراب منافقون، ومن أهل (المدينة) منافقون أقاموا على النفاق، وازدادوا فيه طغيانًا، بحيث يخفى عليك -أيها الرسول- أمرهم، نحن نعلمهم، سنعذبهم مرتين: بالقتل والسبي والفضيحة في الدنيا، وبعذاب القبر بعد الموت، ثم يُرَدُّون يوم القيامة إلى عذاب عظيم في نار جهنم.
