The Holy Quran 7:198 — Surah Al-A'raf

Arabic text

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

Translation

If you call them towards guidance, they cannot hear. (Because of the manner in which the idols are carved,) You will think that they are looking at you, but they cannot see (for they are lifeless).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإن تدعوا -أيها المشركون- آلهتكم إلى الاستقامة والسداد لا يسمعوا دعاءكم، وترى -أيها الرسول- آلهة هؤلاء المشركين مِن عبدة الأوثان يقابلونك كالناظر إليك وهم لا يبصرون; لأنهم لا أبصار لهم ولا بصائر.
