The Holy Quran 5:94 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَيَبْلُوَنَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِشَىْءٍ مِّنَ ٱلصَّيْدِ تَنَالُهُۥٓ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَرِمَاحُكُمْ لِيَعْلَمَ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَخَافُهُۥ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚ فَمَنِ ٱعْتَدَىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَهُۥ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Translation

O you who have Imaan! Allaah shall surely test you to some extent with regard to the (smaller) game that your hands and (the bigger game that) your spears get hold of, so that Allaah may (let others) know who are the ones who fear Him without seeing (Him) (This test occurs when Muslims are in the state of Ihraam and are prohibited from hunting game. On such occasions, one cannot hunt even though the opportunities are abundant). There shall be a painful punishment for the one who oversteps the limits (of the Shari'ah by hunting game while in the state of Ihraam) after this (and after other instructions have come to him).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يا أيها الذين صدقوا الله ورسوله وعملوا بشرعه، ليبلونكم الله بشيء من الصيد يقترب منكم على غير المعتاد حيث تستطيعون أَخْذَ صغاره بغير سلاح وأخذ كباره بالسلاح; ليعلم الله علمًا ظاهرًا للخلق الذين يخافون ربهم بالغيب، ليقينهم بكمال علمه بهم، وذلك بإمساكهم عن الصيد، وهم محرمون. فمن تجاوز حَدَّه بعد هذا البيان فأقدم على الصيد -وهو مُحْرِم- فإنه يستحق العذاب الشديد.
