The Holy Quran 5:75 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

مَّا ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُ وَأُمُّهُۥ صِدِّيقَةٌ ۖ كَانَا يَأْكُلَانِ ٱلطَّعَامَ ۗ ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ نُبَيِّنُ لَهُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ثُمَّ ٱنظُرْ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ

Translation

Maseeh the son of Maryam is but a Rasool. Many Rusul have passed before him and his mother was extremely truthful (true in her Imaan, a saintly woman). Both of them used to eat food (and could therefore not have been gods because gods have no physical needs). See how We illustrate the proofs (evidence of Towheed) for them, then see how they (still) turn back on their heels!

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ما المسيح ابن مريم عليه السلام إلا رسولٌ كمن تقدمه من الرسل، وأُمُّه قد صَدَّقت تصديقًا جازمًا علمًا وعملا وهما كغيرهما من البشر يحتاجان إلى الطعام، ولا يكون إلهًا مَن يحتاج الى الطعام ليعيش. فتأمَّل -أيها الرسول- حال هؤلاء الكفار. لقد وضحنا العلاماتِ الدالةَ على وحدانيتنا، وبُطلان ما يَدَّعونه في أنبياء الله.
