The Holy Quran 5:63 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

لَوْلَا يَنْهَىٰهُمُ ٱلرَّبَّـٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلْأَحْبَارُ عَن قَوْلِهِمُ ٱلْإِثْمَ وَأَكْلِهِمُ ٱلسُّحْتَ ۚ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَصْنَعُونَ

Translation

Why do the pious ones (from among them) and (their) Rabbis (scholars) not prohibit them from their sinful speech and (from) devouring the unlawful? Evil indeed is that which they (the pious and Rabbis) carry out (by not prohibiting the people from doing wrong).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

هلا ينهى هؤلاء الذين يسارعون في الإثم والعدوان أئمتُهم وعلماؤهم، عن قول الكذب والزور، وأكل أموال الناس بالباطل، لقد ساء صنيعهم حين تركوا النهي عن المنكر.
