The Holy Quran 4:86 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا۟ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَآ أَوْ رُدُّوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَسِيبًا

Translation

When you are greeted with a greeting, then reply with a better greeting, or (at least) return (the same greeting). Most surely Allaah takes account of everything (and will reward people for every good they do).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا سلَّم عليكم المسلم فردُّوا عليه بأفضل مما سلَّم لفظًا وبشاشةً، أو ردوا عليه بمثل ما سلَّم، ولكل ثوابه وجزاؤه. إن الله تعالى كان على كل شيء مجازيًا.
