The Holy Quran 4:72 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

وَإِنَّ مِنكُمْ لَمَن لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ فَإِنْ أَصَـٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالَ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىَّ إِذْ لَمْ أَكُن مَّعَهُمْ شَهِيدًا

Translation

Indeed among you is he (the Munaafiq) who hesitates (to proceed in Jihaad). If a calamity (such as defeat or death) befalls you (Muslims while in Jihaad) he (the Munaafiq) says, "Allaah has surely been gracious to me in that I was not present with them."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإنَّ منكم لنفرًا يتأخر عن الخروج لملاقاة الأعداء متثاقلا ويثبط غيره عن عمد وإصرار، فإن قُدِّر عليكم وأُصِبتم بقتل وهزيمة، قال مستبشرًا: قد حفظني الله، حين لم أكن حاضرًا مع أولئك الذين وقع لهم ما أكرهه لنفسي، وسرَّه تخلفه عنكم.
