The Holy Quran 43:23 — Surah Az-Zukhruf

Arabic text

وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ

Translation

In a like manner, whenever We sent a warner (Nabi) to any town before you (O Rasulullaah ﷺ), the affluent (rich) people of the town (also) said, "We found our forefathers following a certain way, and we will be guided in their footsteps."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وكذلك ما أرسلنا من قبلك -أيها الرسول- في قرية مِن نذير ينذرهم عقابنا على كفرهم بنا، فأنذروهم وحذَّروهم سخَطنا وحلول عقوبتنا، إلا قال الذين أبطرتهم النعمة من الرؤساء والكبراء: إنَّا وجدنا آباءنا على ملة ودين، وإنا على منهاجهم وطريقتهم مقتدون.
