The Holy Quran 41:51 — Surah Fussilat

Arabic text

وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَآءٍ عَرِيضٍ

Translation

When We favour man (with blessings), he withdraws and turns away (from worshipping Us, whereas he ought to be thanking Us for what We have granted him). However, when hardship afflicts him, he (then turns to Us and) offers lengthy prayers (so that We may remove his hardship).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا أنعمنا على الإنسان بصحة أو رزق أو غيرهما أعرض وترفَّع عن الانقياد إلى الحق، وإن أصابه ضر فهو ذو دعاء كثير بأن يكشف الله ضرَّه، فهو يعرف ربه في الشدة، ولا يعرفه في الرخاء.
