The Holy Quran 41:5 — Surah Fussilat

Arabic text

وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا فِىٓ أَكِنَّةٍ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَآ إِلَيْهِ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِنَا وَقْرٌ وَمِنۢ بَيْنِنَا وَبَيْنِكَ حِجَابٌ فَٱعْمَلْ إِنَّنَا عَـٰمِلُونَ

Translation

They (the Kuffaar) say (to the Ambiyaa and those who call them to Imaan), "Our hearts are veiled (covered) from what you call us towards (we do not understand you) and there are props in our ears. There is also a barrier between you and us, so do (as you please), we shall do (as we please)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقال هؤلاء المعرضون الكافرون للنبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم: قلوبنا في أغطية مانعة لنا من فهم ما تدعونا إليه، وفي آذاننا صمم فلا نسمع، ومن بيننا وبينك -يا محمد- ساتر يحجبنا عن إجابة دعوتك، فاعمل على وَفْق دينك، كما أننا عاملون على وَفْق ديننا.
