The Holy Quran 3:78 — Surah Ali 'Imran

Arabic text

وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًا يَلْوُۥنَ أَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

Indeed among them (among the Ahlul Kitaab) is a party who twist their tongues with (when reciting) the Book (the Torah) so that you may regard it (the fabrications that they recite) as part of the Book when it is really not part of the Book. (by their false tone and faulty manner of reading) They say that it is from Allaah when it is not (at all) from Allaah and they knowingly lie about Allaah.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإنَّ مِن اليهود لَجماعةً يحرفون الكلام عن مواضعه، ويبدلون كلام الله; ليوهموا غيرهم أن هذا من الكلام المنزل، وهو التوراة، وما هو منها في شيء، ويقولون: هذا من عند الله أوحاه الله إلى نبيه موسى، وما هو من عند الله، وهم لأجل دنياهم يقولون على الله الكذب وهم يعلمون أنهم كاذبون.
