The Holy Quran 3:13 — Surah Ali 'Imran

Arabic text

قَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ ءَايَةٌ فِى فِئَتَيْنِ ٱلْتَقَتَا ۖ فِئَةٌ تُقَـٰتِلُ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأُخْرَىٰ كَافِرَةٌ يَرَوْنَهُم مِّثْلَيْهِمْ رَأْىَ ٱلْعَيْنِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُؤَيِّدُ بِنَصْرِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ

Translation

Indeed there was a sign for you in the two groups which met (during the Battle of Badr). One group fought in the way of Allaah (in the obedience of Allaah, this was the Muslim army led by Rasulullaah ﷺ) while the other was (the group of) Kuffaar, who saw them (the Muslims) as twice their number with their very eyes (Allaah made the Muslims seem twice their number to the Kuffaar). Allaah strengthens with His aid whoever He wills. Truly in this is a lesson for those with foresight (those who can see the truth).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قد كان لكم -أيها اليهود المتكبرون المعاندون- دلالة عظيمة في جماعتين تقابلتا في معركة «بَدْر» : جماعة تقاتل من أجل دين الله، وهم محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابه، وجماعة أخرى كافرة بالله، تقاتل من أجل الباطل، ترى المؤمنين في العدد مثليهم رأي العين، وقد جعل الله ذلك سببًا لنصر المسلمين عليهم. والله يؤيِّد بنصره من يشاء من عباده.
