The Holy Quran 38:32 — Surah Sad

Arabic text

فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ ٱلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِٱلْحِجَابِ

Translation

(When he realised his error,) He said, “Indeed, I have given preference to the wealth of this world (the horses) over the remembrance of my Rabb (salaah) until it (the sun) hid (set) behind the veil (horizon)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فقال: إنني آثرت حب المال عن ذكر ربي حتى غابت الشمس عن عينيه، رُدُّوا عليَّ الخيل التي عُرضت من قبل، فردت عليه، فشرع يضرب سيقانها ورقابها بالسيف؛ قربة لله، لأنها كانت سبب فوات صلاته. وكان التقرب بذبح الخيل مشروعاً في شريعته.
