The Holy Quran 2:66 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا نَكَـٰلًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَمَا خَلْفَهَا وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

Translation

We made it (their punishment) an example (an admonition) for those who were present(at that time) as well as for those after them, and a lesson (a warning) for those who fear Allaah (because it is only such people who will heed the lesson).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فجعلنا هذه القرية عبرة لمن بحضرتها من القرى، يبلغهم خبرها وما حلَّ بها، وعبرة لمن يعمل بعدها مثل تلك الذُّنوب، وجعلناها تذكرة للصالحين; ليعلموا أنهم على الحق، فيثبتوا عليه.
