The Holy Quran 2:60 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

۞ وَإِذِ ٱسْتَسْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ فَقُلْنَا ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْحَجَرَ ۖ فَٱنفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ ٱثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًا ۖ قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۖ كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

Translation

When Moosa asked for water for his people, We told him, “Strike the stone with your staff." Then twelve springs gushed from the stone and each tribe (from the twelve tribes) knew its place of drinking. (We said to them) "Eat and drink from Allaah's provision and do not spread corruption on earth."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

واذكروا نعمتنا عليكم -وأنتم عطاش في التِّيْه- حين دعانا موسى -بضراعة- أن نسقي قومه، فقلنا: اضرب بعصاك الحجر، فضرب، فانفجرت منه اثنتا عشرة عينًا، بعدد القبائل، مع إعلام كل قبيلة بالعين الخاصة بها حتى لا يتنازعوا. وقلنا لهم: كلوا واشربوا من رزق الله، ولا تسعوا في الأرض مفسدين.
