The Holy Quran 2:44 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

۞ أَتَأْمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلْبِرِّ وَتَنسَوْنَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَتْلُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Translation

(Addressing the Jewish scholars who encouraged other Jews to become Muslims, Allaah says,) Do you command people to adopt piety (to embrace the Deen of Muhammad) and forget (to do so) yourselves, whereas you are the ones who recite the Book (the Torah, which confirms the prophethood of Muhammad)? Have you no understanding (of your wrongdoing)?

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ما أقبح حالَكم وحالَ علمائكم حين تأمرون الناس بعمل الخيرات، وتتركون أنفسكم، فلا تأمرونها بالخير العظيم، وهو الإسلام، وأنتم تقرءون التوراة، التي فيها صفات محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، ووجوب الإيمان به!! أفلا تستعملون عقولكم استعمالا صحيحًا؟
