The Holy Quran 2:284 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

لِّلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَإِن تُبْدُوا۟ مَا فِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُم بِهِ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَيَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Translation

To Allaah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you make known what is in your hearts or hide it, Allaah will bring you to account for it (will remind you of it on the Day of Qiyaamah). He forgives whoever He wills and punishes whoever He wills. Allaah has control over all things (ownership, knowledge and control of everything are in Allaah's hands).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

لله ملك السماوات والأرض وما فيهما ملكًا وتدبيرًا وإحاطة، لا يخفى عليه شيء. وما تظهروه مما في أنفسكم أو تخفوه فإن الله يعلمه، وسيحاسبكم به، فيعفو عمن يشاء، ويؤاخذ من يشاء. والله قادر على كل شيء. وقد أكرم الله المسلمين بعد ذلك فعفا عن حديث النفس وخطرات القلب ما لم يتبعها كلام أو عمل، كما ثبت ذلك عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
