The Holy Quran 2:230 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

فَإِن طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا تَحِلُّ لَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدُ حَتَّىٰ تَنكِحَ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُۥ ۗ فَإِن طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَآ أَن يَتَرَاجَعَآ إِن ظَنَّآ أَن يُقِيمَا حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَتِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ يُبَيِّنُهَا لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

If he (the husband) had divorced her (the third time), then she is not lawful for him thereafter until she marries another husband. Then if he (the other husband) divorces her (voluntarily after consummating the marriage), there shall be no sin upon either of the couple (the woman and her first husband) should they return to each other (should they remarry after her Iddah) if they think that they are able to abide by the limits set by Allaah. These are the limits of Allaah which He makes clear for those who have knowledge.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فإن طلَّق الرجل زوجته الطلقة الثالثة، فلا تحلُّ له إلا إذا تزوجت رجلا غيره زواجًا صحيحًا وجامعها فيه ويكون الزواج عن رغبة، لا بنية تحليل المرأة لزوجها الأول، فإن طلقها الزوج الآخر أو مات عنها وانقضت عدتها، فلا إثم على المرأة وزوجها الأول أن يتزوجا بعقد جديد، ومهر جديد، إن غلب على ظنهما أن يقيما أحكام الله التي شرعها للزوجين.
