The Holy Quran 2:137 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

فَإِنْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ مَآ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ فَقَدِ ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِى شِقَاقٍ ۖ فَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

Translation

If they (the Jews and Christians) have Imaan just as you (Mu'mineen) have Imaan, then they are rightly guided. If they turn away, then they are determined to oppose you. Allaah shall be enough for you against them (Allaah is Sufficient as your Helper against their mischief, their harm, their enmity and their obstinacy). He is All Hearing, All Knowing. (It was not long after this verse was revealed that some of the Jews of Madinah were exiled while others were executed.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فإنْ آمن الكفار من اليهود والنصارى وغيرهم بمثل الذي آمنتم به، مما جاء به الرسول، فقد اهتدوا إلى الحق، وإن أعرضوا فإنما هم في خلاف شديد، فسيكفيك الله -أيها الرسول- شرَّهم وينصرك عليهم، وهو السميع لأقوالكم، العليم بأحوالكم.
