The Holy Quran 2:100 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

أَوَكُلَّمَا عَـٰهَدُوا۟ عَهْدًا نَّبَذَهُۥ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Translation

Whenever they make a promise (to Allaah that they will accept the prophethood of Rasulullaah and assist him), will a party of them break it? The truth is that most of them do not have Imaan (because they have no conviction, they do not fear breaking their promises).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ما أقبح حال بني إسرائيل في نقضهم للعهود!! فكلما عاهدوا عهدًا طرح ذلك العهد فريق منهم، ونقضوه، فتراهم يُبْرِمون العهد اليوم وينقضونه غدًا، بل أكثرهم لا يصدِّقون بما جاء به نبي الله ورسوله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
