The Holy Quran 28:38 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمْتُ لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرِى فَأَوْقِدْ لِى يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّينِ فَٱجْعَل لِّى صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ

Translation

(Fearing that Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام may convince his people,) Fir'oun said, “O ministers! Besides myself, I know of no other Ilaah for your people. O Haamaan! Kindle for me a fire on sand (bake bricks for me), then construct a (high) tower for me so that I may get a peek (peep) at Moosa's Rabb (to see whether he exists or not). I strongly feel that he (Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام) is from the liars (he is lying about being a Nabi of his Rabb)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقال فرعون لأشراف قومه: يا أيها الملأ ما علمت لكم من إله غيري يستحق العبادة، فأشْعِل لي -يا هامان- على الطين نارًا، حتى يشتد، وابْنِ لي بناء عاليًا; لعلي أنظر إلى معبود موسى الذي يعبده ويدعو إلى عبادته، وإني لأظنه فيما يقول من الكاذبين.
