The Holy Quran 21:89 — Surah Al-Anbya

Arabic text

وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِى فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ

Translation

And (remember) when Zakariyya prayed (to Allaah saying,), "O my Rabb! Do not leave me childless when You are the Best (and only One) of (those who provide) Successors (progeny)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

واذكر - أيها الرسول - قصة عبد الله زكريا حين دعا ربه أن يرزقه الذرية لما كَبِرت سنُّه قائلا رب لا تتركني وحيدًا لا عقب لي، هب لي وارثًا يقوم بأمر الدين في الناس من بعدي، وأنت خير الباقين وخير مَن خلفني بخير.
