The Holy Quran 19:81 — Surah Maryam

Arabic text

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لِّيَكُونُوا۟ لَهُمْ عِزًّا

Translation

Leaving Allaah, they (the Mushrikeen) adopt many Aaliha (gods) so that these may be a means of strength for them (they believe that these Aaliha will be able to intercede for them before Allaah).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

واتخذ المشركون آلهة يعبدونها من دون الله; لتنصرهم، ويعتزوا بها.
