The Holy Quran 17:14 — Surah Al-Isra

Arabic text

ٱقْرَأْ كِتَـٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا

Translation

(It will then be said to him) "Read your book. Today you are enough (Sufficient) to take stock of yourself (you can see your actions for yourself and you need no one else to question you)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يقال له: اقرأ كتاب أعمالك، فيقرأ، وإن لم يكن يعرف القراءة في الدنيا، تكفيك نفسك اليوم محصية عليك عملك، فتعرف ما عليها من جزاء. وهذا من أعظم العدل والإنصاف أن يقال للعبد: حاسِبْ نفسك، كفى بها حسيبًا عليك.
